Finalists at the Surrey Life Food and Drink Awards 2016


Black Barn Butchers are nominated for the second year running by loyal customer base. Not only was we lucky enough to be nominated we have also made the final three for the second year running for the best butchers shop in Surrey.



On the 15th May 2016 Damon took our Jucy Lucifer Burger & our Welsh Dragon sausage to the National Grand Final of the Q Guild Butchers BBQ Competition & we are pleased to announce we came a close runner up with the Welsh Dragon for best speciality sausage in the country & we won the catergory for best speciality burger in the country. We are delighted with this award as its our first National winner since opening.

Black Barn Butcher selected for TEAM GB

Our shop manager Damon Buckingham has been selected to represent Great Britain at this years World Butchery Challenge, Damon will be in a team of 6 of Britains best butchers battling it out against Australia, New Zealand & France to be crowned World Butchery Champions. The team will fly to Queensland, Australia on the 3rd of September where they will embark on a 7 day study tour visiting some of Austalia's best butcher shops & farms before the battle begins on the 10th september where the teams will have 3 hours to turn a side of beef, side of pork & a whole lamb in to a first class display to be judged by representatives from all four countries, New Zealand have won the event for the last 3 years so Damon is hoping he can make the difference in the team to bring home the title.



Black Barn win big @ BBQ comp !!

On March 14th Black Barn hosted this years Q Guild Butchers south east region BBQ heats, Q Guild Butchers from around the South east attended & Black Barn ended up walking away with 2 category winners from 6.

                              Best BBQ product - James of Shepperton, Surrey


All category winners now go forward to the national finals on the 15th May at Eastwood Hall Hotel, Nottingham. Fingers crossed we come away with a national prize this year.


Black Barn secure local Beef supply


Just before christmas 2015 we managed to persuade local Beef farmer Angus Stovold to supply us with his beautiful Aberdeen Angus Beef from Lydling farm in Shackleford,  just 3 miles away from the shop. We will be getting regular supply from April onwards but we were lucky enough to buy his pair of prize winning bullocks from the Royal Smithfield show in december.

We arer pleased to announced we have made it to the final 3 in the search for the best butcher shop in Surrey, we are very greatful to everyone that took there time to vote for us, we are extremely proud to get this far. David & Damon will be attending the awards ceremony on the 10th September to find out the winner.


Black Barn expansion is underway


Rumours have been flying around & we are pleased to say they are all true, In mid september we will be moving our current retail unit around the corner to the current flower shop. This will give us a lot more space as we will be able to install more fridges in our current unit which we enable us to bring you the customer more fantatsic products. Look out in store for exact dates as they will be announced as soon as we know more.


Black Barn Butchers win 6 gold awards


On Monday 30th March Damon took 6 of our new bbq range to the Q Guild south east region bbq heats and won a gold award for all 6 products and an overall category winner for our Poppy's Ploughmans sausage which was the sausage created by Poppy Hanscombe from The Chandler school in Whitley. The sausage will now go forward to the national final in Coventry on the 31st May 2015.


Black Barn Butchers are now working with the Rare Breed meat company to bring to you some traditional cuts of English beef, pork & lamb. Every week you will see a different species of rare breed meat in the shop along side our normal meat so you will have a even wider variety.


On Tuesday 14th October Damon took a trip up to sunny Suffolk to visit our free range pork farm. Above are a few pictures that were taken on the day demonstrating the true freedom of the pigs. Blythburgh have around 24,000 pigs on there farm at any one time including breeding sows, There operation and animal welfare is second to none. All pigs are born, raised and finished outside, they use a combination of 4 breeds to garuntee tasty pork everytime. They use a Duroc pig which gives them tender meat and good muscle size, A Landrace pig so the pigs has nice long backs making them more appealing to the retail market, A Pietrain Pig because the Pietrain is a hardy pig that copes well in all weather conditons being that the pig is outside its entire life and finally A Large White Pigs for muscle size and litter size. On Wenesday 12th March Damon joint Chertsey sausage creator James Lally & ex Tv dragon Theo Paphitis for the final judging of the Chertsey sausage. Theo liked all three finalist but the mediterranean flavours in the Pork, Chorizo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shallots & Monterey jack was a clear favourite with most. James has now passed the receipe on to us and Damon will be producing the sausage ready for sale from the 14th March.
